Victory Night, History Night In Pictures

Barack Obama has turned what was long "Mission Impossible" to "Possible," but the march of history has only begun ... still ... before we get deep let's continue to revel and gush! OMG! Everyone is so beautiful in these pictures! Damn does Barack love his woman and Michelle love her man. And man, do they love those little girls. And the girls! Dear God, those little girls! Sasha and Malia Obama FOREVER!!!! They win cutest First Children hands down as a tag-team and I, of course, have the pictures from AP and Reuters to prove it. Sorry John-John. Jenna and Barbara Bush, of course, never stood a chance.

I'm wondering about the dress too. Kinda black widowish...

Oh lord...cute First Couple nose-kissing...ridiculously cute First Children...I just can't handle the cuteness of it all!

Of course, given all the emotions of yesterday, and today, it's little surprise that I'm all choked up over those pics.

Obama's win encapsulated all of our hopes and fears and all of our struggles with racism. It wasn't just his victory last night. We were enjoying the celebration vicariously, as though we spent two years campaigning for presidency ourselves. All morning long the phone hasn't stopped ringing. People are calling from all over to talk about what this historic election means. When I watched the Obamas and Bidens walk out on stage last night, it felt like the last scene in "Primary Colors" where the new president is dancing at his inaugural. The uplifting music was playing while Obama waved to the crowds, and I can almost see the credits rolling with the words "The End" finally appearing.

I loved those pics. You can tell that there is a genuine love there.
Those girls are adorable.

I know we must be gracious in victory, so I'll just say some polite goodbyes.
Goodbye Joe the Plumber. It's been real--a real nightmare, that is. I hope you never make another housecall again.

Goodbye Palin. I'm so happy I won't have to hear that screeching voice again.

Goodbye McCain. No more hearing stories of Hanoi Hilton and the phrase "My Friends" at the end of every sentence.

Goodbye McCain spokepeople: I won't have to hear the constant spin about socialism taking over America--at least not in a campaign setting.

Goodbye Reverend Wright: I won't ever have to hear "God damn America" anymore, except in a historical documentary.

Goodbye Guiliani, Romney, Lieberman. Welcome guys to the dustbin of history. Join Hoover and Wallace and all the rest.

Goodbye to all the other crap I had to listen to for months. Good riddance!

Love these photos.

I think both the "wee-Michelles" and the late John-John can be appreciated. :)

Poor Chelsea entered the WH as she was going through an awkward stage. I thought it was mean when people made fun of her. Not cool.

What's your verdict on Michelle's dress, BS?
I kinda liked it, also like how they all co-ordinated like at the DNC

I don't think I can say it enough. I love those girls. It is going to be so exciting to have children in the White House. And I'm so glad they have each other to lean on and share with in this journey...

That being said, I need the Bushes' out immediately. I don't feel like waiting until Jan. I half expected the crowd in DC to storm the WH "Frence Revolution" style last night and carry them out.

I'll never forget this night a long as I live. Thanks for the photo essay, just made for some really great reminiscing though it was only a couple of hours ago. The celebrations will continue until Inauguration Day on the 20th JAN baby. That's the one!

Still I Rise

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

Kinda says it all; doesn't it?

I feel like I have died and gone to heaven.

It's been really wonderful to follow this campaign through your blog for the last ever-lasting decade it seems.

I am still in shock...a Black man is President of the United States, a beautiful Black woman is going to be the First Lady, and there will be beautiful Black children in the white house...I still can't feel yet, but I will. I will be feeling this for the next four years. I thought I would never see this in my lifetime and I am young. This taught me so much about vision: holding to that vision and getting the best people behind you to help it come to fruition.

I always thought I was a truly 'assimulated' Black American who felt like she was a part of this country, but I realized this morning that this is the first time in my life that I feel like a FULL CITIZEN. And that is because that Brown man was just elected President.

It's a brand-new day in America, and I am so happy to be a part of it.

OK, I speled it wrong--I am excited folks! I meant assimilated--you know what I am I talking about!

And here I am, wondering what the Black Snob has to say about it all.

The last little bit of feeling disenfranchised as an American went away last night.

Hmm..Michelle Obama in 2016? Why not?

Hmm, Sasha in 2045? Why not?
